Malaak Compton-Rock, wife of actor/comedian Chris Rock, has turned her passion for fashion and helping others into Styleworks a non-profit organization that helps women on welfare and in shelters get back on their feet and enter the workforce.

Through a dedicated corps of volunteers, Styleworks provides its clients with full makeovers--including hair, wardrobe and makeup. "I could not do it without the hairstylists, the makeup artists, the salon owners who allow us to work," says Malaak. "It's a daily reminder that people want to do good."

Styleworks' clients are extremely grateful for the confidence and pleasure their makeovers give them. To assure that they are able to give proper thanks, Malaak provides her clients with three thank-you cards: one for the wardrobe person, one for the makeup artist, and one for the hairstylist.

And what about a thank-you for Malaak? "By virtue of allowing me to be a part of what I think is one of the most important journeys a person can go through," says Malaak, "that's thanks enough.

"Styleworks is the most rewarding thing I have ever done in my life. When I see the women's reaction when they first turn around and look in the mirror... it fills my spirit."
