He signed with Slip-N-Slide, which as of 2007, is distributed under Def Jam Records. Port of Miami, Ross' debut album, was released on August 8, 2006, with the lead single "Hustlin'" peaking at #7 on the hip-hop chart and #54 on the Billboard Hot 100. A remix of the single featuring Jay-Z, Young Jeezy, & also achieved some popularity in digital downloads. Port of Miami is certified Platinum by the RIAA.

Rick Ross Gives Back, Holds First Annual Rick Ross Be Out Day
Aug, 2007On August 8, 2007, Rick Ross held the first annual "Rick Ross Be Out Day," during which students will receive free school supplies such as backpacks, pencils and pens. The day will also include giveaways from the events sponsors which include Slip N' Slide Records and Miami's WEDR 99 Jamz radio station. WEDR on air personality DJ Khaled hosted the event. "This day is for the kids," Rick Ross said in a statement. "I want to give back to my city, it's all about the kids, they need to know that if they stay in school, work hard and stay focused, they can be anything they want to be, and they will succeed."

2nd Annual Be Out Day
Aug, 2008To date, Rick Ross Be Out Day is Rick Ross Charities, Inc. Signature Event which distributes backpacks and school supplies while providing an entertaining day at the park with free food, drinks and entertainment. In 2007, the first annual Be Out Day was sponsored in part by Magic Johnson's Burger King Restaurants, Converse, Wal-Mart, Kraft Food Service and a host of others. Organizations such as Dade County Public Schools, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan, The Resource Room and the Urban League of Greater Miami worked closely with Rick Ross Charities, Inc. to ensure the free outdoor community event was a success. It was attended by over 2500 children and families. The event also served as an outlet for the presentation of the Rick Ross Charities, Inc. Scholarship Award.

Rick Ross presents Free Financial Seminar
Nov, 2007On November 3, 2007 Rick Ross charities Inc, in conjunction with Floyd Thomas, owner of F.D. Thomas Tax and Financial Services, based in Decatur, Georgia presented the Money Management Seminar. The seminar focused on Tax Saving Tips, Comprehensive understanding of all insurances and investments. The seminar was free and open to the public and all ages. The seminar took place at Resource Room
