A View from Da Bing Article #3
Hip-hop, hip-hop and more hip-hop is the cure. What up free world its your man again, Casthro the young Don coming to you live from Da Bing with A View from Da Bing. In our last article I gave you all an assignment to spread some love to one of your loved ones in Da Bing. I also told you all that I would be taking on this assignment myself in reverse being that I am locked up in Da Bing unfortunately. Well my people I must keep it real with you, when I started to write down the last verse of Jay-Z’s “Soon You’ll Understand” on The Dynasty album, I choked up yall. It was just too relative to my situation, my emotions couldn’t handle it. From the first line, - “Dear Ma I’m in this cell, lonely as hell writing this scribe, thinking about you, how you must feel inside.” To the last line - “I call myself easing the load, I made the heavy, I need the money for commensary, try to understand. So instead I just called my dear mother and talked to her.“ Hold up yall before you all call me a punk, you must realize that me and my mother are very very close and my incarceration is very very real. I’ve been in since 2003 and my release date is 2020 as of right now, you do the math… But I am a man of my word so I am going to complete this project. I’m just not doing it with my mother. On another note, I’ve been playing the Fat Joe album “Elephant in the Room” and I must say that it definitely gets A View from Da Bing, stamp of approval. I appreciate all of the references to hanging out with brothers fresh out Da Bing. A lot of people don’t know about all of the love that Fat Joe spreads for brothers in Da Bing. Can you believe that this brother has actually been to prisons to do shows for the inmates!?!? Wow now that’s real! Its always a good thing to keep it Gangsta with the Gangstas in Da Bing. My people do you truly understand why brothers locked up have a problem with authority? Because these so called authority figures abuse their authority constantly. Corrections officers “CO’s” take pride in humiliating, demeaning and disrespecting us. That’s when the problem starts…Just imagine if you were in a situation to where you haven’t seen your family in years. You haven’t spoken to them in months, you sleep in a cold room every night in the winter and a hot room every night in the summer. You wake up at 5 AM every morning, you mind your own and try your best to spend your time in a constructive manner. Then this low self esteem, low educated, low-life reject who was probably picked on by everybody at school and is now almost 40 years old and still living at home with their momma. Racist, scary punk ass Uncle Tom starts to invade your peace and space for nothing. Everyday I see CO’s who really feel like they are - “Top Flight security Craig, of the world Craig”. I’ve been faced with it too many times. Once a CO around 19-20 years old tried to play me yall. I spilled some water on my cell floor so naturally I asked the CO for a mop so I could clean up the mess. That’s when this pencil neck young punk tried to order me to clean up the mess with my personal towel and face rag. Now my first thought was to run in his mouth with a three piece and use him to dry up the water on the floor. But I didn’t because that would only make my situation worse. Is it in his job description to disrespect grown men thise have way for no reason? Would he have pulled this stunt if the commissioner or mayor was present? Hell no! So why would he have an ignorant and negative approach to such a simple situation (is he slow) probably but he also like many other CO’s feel the need to abuse their authority. Oh by the way, of course I didn’t clean up the water with my personal towel and face rag. However, my people this needs to stop…Doing time is hard enough, why make it harder just because?? Till next time my people, stay strong, stay focused and stay black. May God Bless you and yours.
